If you’re tired of using dental floss to clean the crevices of your smile, you’ve come to the right blog! Our dentist, Dr. Michael Scholes, and dental team have some good news for you: You don’t necessarily have to use floss to clean between your teeth. There are other oral hygiene tools you can use, and we’re happy to tell you all about them.
The first tool is a dental pick. A dental pick is a small, convenient tool that looks almost like a toothpick. However, it is “u” shaped on one end. There is a string of floss that runs from one end of the “u” to the other. All you need to do is send that piece of floss between your teeth and clean the space. You can use the other sharper end to pry out any stubborn substance from between your teeth and along the gumline.
The second tool is an electric flosser. There are many electronic flossers in the world today, like vibrating flossers, power flossers, and air flossers. Power and air flossers typically help with spacing issues in the mouth, and vibrating flossers can clean the entire tooth and gumline. To find out which tool is best for your smile, please ask your dentist.
The third tool is an oral irrigator. An oral irrigator is a handheld wand that is attached to a reservoir of water. When you turn it on, the tip sprays water at a certain pressure. All you need to do is place the wand in your mouth, close your lips around it, and turn it on. When it sprays, place the tip between the teeth and the space will be cleaned.
