Tips on Reversing the Early Stages of Tooth Decay

Posted .

If your dentist, Dr. Michael Scholes, has told you that you’re starting to form a cavity on one of your teeth, then you need to be very careful. Generally, you won’t even notice the cavity because it shouldn’t cause pain yet. This is a good time to try to reverse the cavity-forming process as much as possible. To help you do so, our dentist has some tips, which are:

– Let fluoride strengthen your teeth: Fluoride is a natural mineral that can be found in toothpaste, mouthwash, tap water, and professional fluoride treatments. It can strengthen and nourish the tooth enamel to help it fight the cavity. It’s best to expose your teeth to fluoride as much as possible.

– Clean your smile regularly: Keeping up with oral hygiene can keep your teeth and gums clean as well as wash away cavity-causing bacteria. It can also slow the cavity-evolving process if you use fluoride products. So, make sure to brush twice a day, floss once a day, rinse daily, and visit our office every six months for your cleanings and exams.

Now remember: If the cavity is causing pain, you need to schedule an appointment at Scholes Family Dental to get it treated.
