A sealant is a plastic material that is usually applied to the chewing surfaces on the back teeth. We offer dental sealants in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to act as a barrier, protecting the teeth against decay-causing bacteria like plaque and acids. The sealants that we offer are very easy to apply, and the whole procedure only lasts a few minutes. Before the actual sealing, Dr. Michael Scholes will clean and prepare the tooth that is receiving the sealant. When your tooth has been prepared and ready, your dentist will place the sealant to your tooth as if he were painting it on, and it will bond directly to your tooth.

The surface of the tooth will be protected and the sealant should be able to handle any regular chewing pressure. Although you have sealants on your teeth, it is still important to attend regular visits so the dentist can check and evaluate your sealants and reapply them if necessary.

Give Scholes Family Dental a call if you have any questions about how sealants will work and if you would like to learn how sealants are beneficial to both children and adults. We are always ready to help you learn more about your dental health and to schedule an appointment.
